The light behind Lidice

This Saturday will expire 75 years after the burning of Lidice. Martin Chodur with a choir of the national anthem and his song Lidice will sing at a memorial event.

On Saturday 10th of June this year we will remind one of the most tragic events of our history - the burning of the Central Bohemian village of Lidice by the Nazis . And just on Saturday, the 11th Annual National Children's Choirs from the Czech Republic called Light for Lidice and the motto Children sing to folk children will be held in the Lidice Memorial in the morning. The personal auspices have been traditionally assumed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic MUDr. Přemysl Sobotka. The artistic patronage of this year's show was taken by singer Martin Chodúr, who, with more than one hundred children, chooses to sing the Czech national anthem.

"It is a great honor for me," says Martin Chodúr. "Since January last year I have been looking at the world with completely different eyes than before. I became the father of my son Martin. I think we should all try to make sure that the tragic events of Lidice in 1942 are never forgotten and never repeat. The participation in the forthcoming commemorative event at the Lidice Memorial has another meaning for me. When the beginning of this decade began to prepare the Lidice film, my creators asked me for the final song in this film. Eventually, they did not choose it, but I have been doing it with success since then in my recital of film melodies. And for the first time, I will sing next to Cohen's song Hallelujah in Lidice. It means a lot to me ".

The song Lidice, to which Martin Chodúr wrote music and text, is here to be seen .
