If other negative effects are added such as decreased HDL cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, smoking, male and older age, the risk of cardiovascular disease is increased severalfold. Optimal is to have a total cholesterol level of up to 5 mmol / l. Of this, HDL above 1 mmol / l, LDL at 2 mmol / L and TAG below 2 mmol / l. The monitored parameter is also the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL. The risk of the disease is increased at 5: 1, so it is better if the ratio is lower.
Keep cholesterol under control
There are several principles to keep the optimal cholesterol ratio in the body.
Practice regularly.
Reduce drinking alcohol and do not smoke.
Do not distract yourself.
Adjust the diet - limit cereal and simple sugar, consume omega-3 fatty acids. As a source of fat, use margarines and vegetable oils, eat less fat sausages, meat and guts, add to the legume menu.
Go to regular checks. Your doctor will monitor your blood cholesterol levels and can take medication while taking your diet despite dietary precautions.
