In the East of the West section she will compete with Beatles Parkan's Chvilka debut and Chata for sale directed by Tomáš Pavlíček. In the documentary section, three Czech films were selected, the Special Report by Tomáš Bojar, In Mosul Jana Andert and Witnesses of Putin Vitalia Mansk. Non-competitive part of the Main Program will feature science fiction comedy Benjamin Tucek Mars , King Skate Simon Shafrank and Circus Rwanda Michal Varga.
"It is not only to me that was greatly appreciated that Czech film will also be represented at the Karlovy Vary festival this year. Most of the films came with the support of the State Fund of Cinematography, and I hope that one of them will receive awards and will repeat the last year's success of the film Křižáček, which I personally saw three times, " said fund director Helena Bezděk Fraňková.
The Karlovy Vary Festival also commemorates the late director Miloš Forman in the ceremony of the 53rd festival. The opening film of this year's legendary Forman Comedy Love One Blonde. At the same time during the opening ceremony concert in front of the hotel Thermal block of music from the films of Miloš Forman Hoří will be played by doll, Taking Off, Valmont, Amadeus and Hair performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Libor Pešek.
